Important: Issue with eligiblity results for DolceVisa® members.
Due to a recent, major update in administration regarding Italian Citizenships, part of the DolceVisa® programme is under review. We did not foresee this change, and are working diligently to update the DolceVisa® programme.
Administrative Change
If your Italian-born ancestor became a naturalised citizen of another country while their child (born outside of Italy) was still a minor (under 21 years old before March 1975, or under 18 after), that child would have automatically lost Italian citizenship. This loss would break the inheritance chain, meaning new applicants could not claim Italian citizenship through this ancestor unless such a child would have chosen Italian citizenship as their sole citizenship within one year of adulthood.
This new change means we have to update a lot of logic in the programme, which might take some time.
Breaking it down:
If your great ancestor naturalised before or when the next person in line became an adult* (and this was before 1992), it means the inheritance chain (under new guidelines) is now broken. The Ius Soli exemption has been revoked and you would not be eligible for Italian Citizenship.
THIS MEANS THAT WHILE DolceVisa® MIGHT MARK YOU AS ELIGIBLE
YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO APPLY FOR ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP BY DESCENT.
You can take our eligibility test here, if you are unsure on this section.
If you are a member, you can ignore the purchase prompt.
If you are still unsure, please contact us at hello@dolcevisa.com, with the following details:
Did your ancestor naturalise before 1992?
Was his child born when he naturalised?
If yes, was the child a minor?
(Under 21 years old before March 1975, or under 18 after March 1975)
If the child was not born, or still a minor, did they request that Italian be their sole citizenship within one year of adulthood?
We will do our best to reply as quickly as possible, and likewise, update the DolceVisa® platform as quickly as possible, but with a big change like this, it might take some time.
We thank you for your patience and will update you when we're running.
